Stop Junk mail and viruses passed via forwards!

To delete addresses in a forward click the 'Forward' button first to have full editing capabilities against the body and headers of the message.

When you forward an e-mail, DELETE all of the other addresses that appear in the body of the message (at the top). Highlight and delete them, or backspace them.. It only takes a second.

Do NOT use the To: or Cc: fields for adding e-mail addresses. Always use the BCC: (blind carbon copy) field for listing the e-mail addresses. Recipients will only see their e-mail address. If you don't see your BCC option click on where it says To: and your address list will appear. Highlight the address and choose BCC. When you send to BCC: your message will automatically say 'Undisclosed Recipients' in the 'TO:' field of the people who receive it.

Remove any 'FW :' in the subject line. Re-name the subject if you wish or even fix spelling.

ALWAYS hit your Forward button from the actual e-mail you are reading. By forwarding from the actual page you wish someone to view, you stop them from having to open many e-mails just to see what you sent.

E mail petitions accumulate addresses. The email can be forwarded on and on and can collect thousands of names and email addresses. These are passed along opening the possibility of a virus attack. The completed petition is actually worth a couple of bucks to a professional spammer because of the wealth of valid names and email addresses contained therein.

Before you forward an Amber Alert, or a Virus Alert, or some of the other, check them out before you forward them. Most are junk mail circulating the net for years! Check out vality at
www.truthorfiction.com or http://www.snopes.com/

Remove >> marks Highlight the message and hit control,C to copy it. Go to word pad or note pad and hit control,V to paste it. Edit and replace (>) all, Recopy the message without the marks.

There will be no computer classes on December 24 and December 31. See you on January 7, 2009.

Update: Roger

Roger spent a brief time at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. During this time he improved with less pain and more mobility. He then was returned to Seaside Nursing home to work on strength. His goal and plan was to fly to FL to his HTR home on December 13. His son Don and wife Bev planned to be with him. However, during the next week Roger suffered his third stroke. This stopped his plans to fly south.

Please check his Caring Bridge journal as listed on the right. Cards, E mails and calls are very important and much appreciated by the entire family. Remember you can post a message on the Caring Bridge site.

Update: Roger Legere

Our Computer Club president, Roger Legere, has moved to a comforting hospice home near Portland, Maine. Information comes from the posting by his son Don on Roger's Caring Bridge site. Gosnell Memorial Hospice House provides a homey environment for family and patient to be together. You may look at his surroundings through a link in the Caring Bridge Posting.

We should continue to send our snail mail cards of friendship and encouragement to the address at the right. This place has wifi access and this makes it easier for Don to read postings to Roger in his apartment. Our part in his life is communication and his family encourages contacts for Roger.

Update on Roger Legere
Roger and Beverly Legere remain in Portland, ME. Roger has spent several weeks in rehab following two strokes this summer. Roger’s cancer has now spread to his spine, pelvis and shoulders. To relieve some of the pain he is doing two weeks of radiation. His pain has worsened and he returned to the nursing home for continued radiation and pain management. Please keep up with him through the Caring Bridge site. At this site his family posts updates. Son Don reads all of the guestbook signings to him. Phone calls are difficult time wise for the family. Our part is still to flood his mail box with cards and notes. See address in the side bar.
