The Computer Club has completed a successful year! The goal to make classes interactive was achieved and topics were varied. Classes have been presented for beginners, Skype, Security, GPS, blogs, free word processing, keyboard shortcuts, online tutorial help, digital cameras, managing pictures and social networking.
Thanks to presenters John Doyle, Jim Faubert, John Cuthbert, Jane Low, Charles Marston, Roxie Marston, Tom Roule, Dona Muller, and Tom Fanniff.
Monday Help sessions have been attended well. Thanks to each helper who came in to provide their expertise.
A bank of four online computers for public use and a printer have been maintained by club officers. The club blog, www.htrcomputerclub.blogspot.com has been frequently visited. Computer information will continue on this blog after you are gone from HTR.
Recycling of electronic equipment is encouraged. You may recycle through the Internet at http://www.myboneyard.com. At this site you state what you have to recycle, receive a prepaid postage label and receive money on a Visa Prepaid Card.
The Computer Club officers are George Younkin, president, Jim Faubert, vice president, Gloria Klingensmith, treasurer and Roxie Marston secretary.
Computer classes and help sessions will begin in December 2009.

This is a successful year in providing Internet access, maintenance, and instruction or help by volunteers from the Computer Club. Thanks to all volunteers who come in to assist with the Help sessions on Monday mornings. Presenters spend time preparing instructions for classes on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, Wednesday for a 2 hour session. These sessions are $2 each. There is a no charge Q and A session for an hour on the 1st Wednesdays. For help or use of the computers and printer there is a donation slot in the cabinet door.

If you wish to be included in the notification of new information on the site send an E mail to: MarsCreate@aol.com; subject: computer club sign up. Anyone may receive these notices or go directly to the site. There is no sign in on the site.
The sign in front of the Leisure Center also announces the schedule.
We appreciate your electronic donations! We will evaluate them for use. If deemed unusable we will take them to a large recycling center at Tavares, Managed Asset Recovery Services, 510 E Alfred Street, Tavares, FL , 352-343-0934. www.marsllc.net.

HTR Computer Club History
Submitted to Park History Booklet 2009
The Computer Club was begun in 2000 with an information meeting on the marina patio. There were no computers but there was a lot of interest. Present were Al Weed, Tom Fanniff, Roger Legere, Gloria Klingensmith, and Dona Muller. Tom taught and attendees took notes. Roger Legere conducted the meetings. The next year the club moved to the Leisure Center. (John Doyle was also at the meeting.)
Prior to this in 1996 Penny Durst formed a Computer Users Group that met in the Leisure Center. There was much interest in this new wave of technology. Penny taught classes and was instrumental in getting one computer to use in teaching.
In 2000, the club began to present classes and help sessions. Volunteers continue to do this in 2009. With the formation of the Internet the Computer Club has expanded its lesson topics to meet resident and visitor needs. The club has a website at www.htrcomputerclub.blogspot.com
The club maintains a bank of online computers, a printer and WiFi for park residents and visitors. Holiday Travel Resort and the Resident’s Fund have provided telephone lines. WiFi came to the Leisure Center in 2006 with installation help by computer club members. Volunteer computer members and the park extended WiFi to the Ken Jones Post Office and restaurant in the 2008 season.

Social Networking Class
Social Networking will be the topic for computer class on March 25, 2009. Face Book, Twitter, U-Tube will be discussed by Dona Muller, Jane Low, and Tom Fanniff. Class time is 1:00 PM in the Leisure Center.

HTR History Booklet on Sale, Class 3/18
The HTR History Booklet will be available for sale on March 20, 2009 after a kick off party at the Activity Center at 1:00 PM. Included in this publication is the history of the Computer Club and its forerunner the Computer Users Group.
Holiday Trav L Park opened on March 21 in 1971. Some of the original founders and campers will be in attendance for the HTR History Booklet kick off on March 20, 2009. Cost of the booklet is $5.00

On March 18, 2009 Tom Roule will discuss ways to manage the pictures taken with your digital camera.Class times are at 1:00 PM. There is a $2.00 charge per class to cover the handout from the presenter and reward them. The formal class schedule ends March 25.

March Classes; President Younkin
There will be no computer activity on Wednesday, March 4 due to the park picnic.

George Younkin has made it official. He has moved from interim president to President Younkin of our Computer Club. We look forward to George’s capabilities to organize and expand computer information and service to the park.
