Looking ahead to 2011-2012

The Leisure Center has been set for the off season by Computer Club Officers and an Advisory Council member. The bank of computers has been reduced to one for use by the summer regulars and travelers. WiFi remains in the LC and at the Ken Jones Post Office-Restaurant.


Classes for the 2011-2012 season will be on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Wednesdays at 1:00 PM. Help sessions on Monday mornings at 10:00 AM will continue. The possibility of several, simultaneous mini classes will be explored.

There are many topics to present in the nine available class times. If you are interested in working up a class presentation on any of the topics below or suggesting a topic please get in touch with Roxie at MarsCreate@aol.com. Be sure to put HTR Classes in the subject line. Roxie will discuss the suggestions with HTR Computer Club officers.

Several of the topics listed have regularly been presented. These folks will be given the option to continue. It is also possible that a topic could be presented more than once during a season.

Possible topics could include:
Ancestry ,GPS, Digital photos, Microsoft shortcuts, Blogging, copy/paste, streets and trips, using health sites, using live help, using weather sites, favorite sites and why, search engines, Skype, Quicken or money tracking program, how to keep computer clean, finding antivirus sites, Picasa, movie making with Photo Story 3, and how my computer works for me.

 One desktop and laptop station set up for the off season.

The computer Club wishes to thank those who have made class presentations this year. Appreciation goes to Tom Roule, Jim and Chris Guld of Geeks on Tour, Sharon Ables, Jerry Wessel, Chuck Barlow and Roxie Marston.
Classes have been held on digital pictures, Picasa photo editing, Google Earth, Blogging, Ancestry, GPS systems, Skype, Microsoft shortcuts, copy-paste, streets and trips and favorite site sharing.


Thanks to all volunteers who have come in to assist with the Help sessions on Monday mornings. Volunteers helpers next year are welcome.

A bank of four online computers for public use has been maintained by club officers. The club blog, www.htrcomputerclub.blogspot.com has been frequently visited. Computer information will continue on this blog after you are gone from HTR.

The Computer officers and Advisory Council continue to assess the extreme use of the Internet in the immediate neighborhoods. Through an online site this use can be monitored. The information shows that people are staying online all day. Constant streaming of audio and video deprives others who are simply wishing to pick up their E mail.

Computer classes and help sessions will begin in December 2011.
